Foo Fighters Performance Registers Noise Complaints in Belfast

There’s no doubt the Foo Fighters rock, and it’s usually pretty hard when they do. But their efforts were not exactly embraced by everyone in the surrounding Belfast area Tuesday night (Aug. 21) as a number of people filed noise complaints during the band’s set on the opening night of Tennant’s Vital festival.
The BBC reports that the Belfast City Council received 120 complaint calls, while the local police also received numerous noise complaints as well. Local businesswoman Grainne McGarvey said, “I pretty much heard every ooh and ah and beat of the drum,” while Eileen Fee, who lives a mile away from the venue, claimed that her windows shook while the band played. “I just thought I was at the concert, that’s how loud it was,” said Fee. “It was really impossible to do anything else at home.”
Playing loud is nothing new for the Foo Fighters. Just last year, it was reported that the group’s performance In Auckland, New Zealand was so powerful that the city’s seismic stations within a two kilometer radius of Western Springs Stadium registered low frequency geological tremors. They also noticed a lull and increase in the frequency whenever the band ended and began songs.
For those wondering, it appears as though Manowar might be the loudest band on the planet. The group reportedly achieved an SPL of 139 decibels during a soundcheck at the Magic Circle Fest in 2008. Kiss reportedly has the highest actual concert sound level, as a 2009 show in Ottawa reached 136 decibels.

Zakk Wylde to Host Sports Talk Radio Show

 Zakk Wylde

Zakk Wylde, founder of Black Label Society, will host a new weekly sports talk series on SiriusXM. ‘Wylde on Sports’ will debut Sept. 4 and air every Tuesday for six weeks on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio. The co-host will be Ken Thomson, Wylde’s brother-in-law and a veteran sports talk host.
“I’m excited to join my brother-in-law Ken Thomson every Tuesday night on SiriusXM to recap all of the awesome NFL action, and to find out what in the Wylde world of sports is going on,” says Wylde. “We’ll be hosting an amazing cast of characters from the worlds of sports, music, movies, television and your local bowling alley as we get Wylde on Sports! Yay! Go Team!”
Since the show is on the fantasy sports channel during football season, obviously a big part of the show will be fantasy football. Wylde will also be joined on the show by celebrities and musicians. Wylde recently participated in the annual SiriusXM Celebrity Fantasy Football Draft, held in New York’s City’s Times Square. He’ll compete this season in a league that also includes teams managed by Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew, comedians Artie Lange and Nick DiPaolo, WWE star Mike “The Miz” Mizanin, actor George Wendt and others.
But as Wylde tells ESPN.com, the show will be more than just one topic. “Between my wrestling buddies, my athlete buddies, my actor buddies or musician/rock star insane brothers over there, it’s going to be a ton of comedy, I can tell you that right now.  It’s going to be ‘Animal House’ on sports, pretty much.  The alcohol won’t be there, but the stupidity will be flying at an all-time-high rate.”

Aaron Lewis Tries to Avoid Getting Staind with Mud at Arkansas Festival

 Staind

When conditions deteriorate at shows, sometimes it can be a bit of a free-for-all, and that’s what happened in Little Rock, Ark., this past Saturday (Aug. 18) at Edgefest VIII, when several fans took advantage of the rain-soaked ground from earlier in the day and started tossing mud clumps at the acts playing onstage.
Blabbermouth reports that Staind vocalist Aaron Lewis was one of the artists who didn’t take to the idea of getting pelted by the crowd and called out one of the audience members. The singer chastised, “All right, so obviously we’re children and we can’t play in the mud. You in the baseball hat right there, with the f—ing long hair that’s hiding his face, I see you lump up one more mudball and throw it at the f—ing stage, I’m gonna have every mother—-er around you kick the f—ing s— out of you.”
Staind are currently on tour as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival, but have announced plans to take a hiatus after completing the touring cycle for their self-titled album.
Though the word “hiatus” immediately raises concerns amongst fans, Lewis explained that this did not mean that they were breaking up. Rather, it means that after touring solidly for the last decade plus, they’ll take a little time for themselves before regrouping and starting in on their next album.

Seether Celebrate 10-Year Anniversary of ‘Disclaimer’ With ‘Sympathetic’ Video Release

 Seether

This time a decade ago, South Africa wasn’t exactly known for turning out hard rock bands. Now, a decade later, Seether have become one of the most successful and steadily consistent hard rock bands going. It all started on Aug. 20, 2002, when the group issued their ‘Disclaimer’ album, and it set them on the path to where they are today.
As a thank you to the fans that have been there through the last decade, the group has offered up a previously unreleased video for the song ‘Sympathetic’ off their debut disc. The video was definitely created at an earlier period for the band as the group feature as a four-piece in the clip and current drummer John Humphrey does not appear.
In addition, the band will release never-before-seen footage along with more exclusive content from that era in the weeks to come. Wind-up Records, which initially signed the group, has made the band’s entire catalog available for $7.99 all this week and all tracks from the ‘Disclaimer’ and ‘Disclaimer II’ albums will be priced at $.69 for a limited time.
Since their debut disc, all of Seether’s albums have been certified gold or platinum, and the band has strung together six No. 1 hits and 13 Top 10s on the Active Rock Chart, including three consecutive No. 1′s (‘Country Song,’ ‘Tonight,’ and ‘No Resolution’) off their most recent album, ‘Holding Onto Strings Better Left to Fray.’
Look for the band this fall headlining the Triple Threat Tour with Sick Puppies and Kyng, and circle Sept. 3 on your calendar for the group’s inaugural Rise Above Fest in Gilford, N.H.

Bush Frontman Gavin Rossdale Feels Solo Career Was ‘Almost a Douche-Bag Route’

 Bush

When Bush disbanded in 2002, frontman Gavin Rossdale formed a new band called Institute. Institute released one album before Rossdale moved on to his solo career, releasing ‘Wanderlust’ in 2008. Now in 2012 Rossdale is back in Bush, where he feels he truly belongs.
In a new interview with Classic Rock Magazine (via Big Pond News) the frontman discusses his career even going as far as calling his solo disc a mistake. “Nobody cared” about it and in the end he felt he was destined to be with Bush. He talks about the path that led him back to the band, saying, “There was a side-project, and then a solo career, by default – that was almost a douche-bag route; who cares about singers making solo records? I needed to be in Bush again.”
Now that he is back in Bush again, Classic Rock asked him what it’s like not to have founding member guitarist Nigel Pulsford and original bassist Dave Parsons in the band anymore. Rossdale said he understands why they didn’t want to return, explaining, “I haven’t even missed Nigel not being in the band. It couldn’t be more normal. Nigel just doesn’t want to work anymore, he’s never coming back.”
Nigel may not be coming back, but Bush definitely did. Their 2011 release ‘The Sea of Memories’ marked the band’s first studio disc in close to a decade. They followed the release with a club tour run followed by joining Nickelback on their North American jaunt. The band is now on tour in Europe through mid-September playing countries like England, Germany, Portugal and Italy.

Green Day Star in Upcoming Angry Birds Episode

Angry Birds is all the rage these days, and now Green Day are getting in on the mayhem. The band is teaming up with Rovio Entertainment, the creator of Angry Birds, to prep a new musical episode for Angry Birds Friends. The installment will offer 10 never-before-seen themed levels, plus new “bad pig” characters that will take the likeness of band members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool.
The release will also feature Green Day’s new single ‘Oh Love,’ plus the new song ‘Troublemaker.’ Expect more exclusive content to be announced soon, and look for the episode to arrive later this fall.
“We’re all fans of Angry Birds,” Armstrong said in an official statement. “It’s such an addictive game that when we first started playing it we couldn’t stop. Go Team Green!”
“We are beyond excited,” added Rovio CMO and Mighty Eagle Peter Vesterbacka. “Two amazing brands working together on a one-of-a-kind collaboration. We can’t wait for our fans to explore this new Green Day world.”
Green Day are prepping to release a trio of albums dubbed ‘Uno,’ ‘Dos,’ and ‘Tre’ over the next few months. The first one, ‘Uno,’ will arrive Sept. 25.
